NEW BOOKS

Lord of the flies (1954), by William Golding

A book that didn't catch people's attention until schools ordered the book in the 60s for teaching purposes.

A book I am willing to read since long ago and never bought. Finally, I spotted the book today in this big book shop and I thought it was about time to give it a try :)

'At the dawn of the next world war, a plane crashes on an uncharted island, stranding a group of schoolboys. At first, with no adult supervision, their freedom is something to celebrate. This far from civilization they can do anything they want. Anything. But as order collapses, as strange howls echo in the night, as terror begins its reign, the hope of adventure seems as far removed from reality as the hope of being rescued...'

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2009), by Jane Austen & Seth Grahame-Smith

A parody novel that combines the original novel by Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice from 1813 and zombie elements from modern fiction.

A novel I was very curious about the moment I saw it. S
o finally decided to buy it and give it a chance in this zombie movie revival we are experiencing being now movies like Zombieland on the peak. Sometimes this kind of extravagant, daring remakes are very enjoyable.

'It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains.

So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton- and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civ
ilized sparring between the two young lovers- and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefiled. Can Elizabeth vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcomethe social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry? Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you'd actually like to read.'

The Death of Bunny Munro (2009), by Nick Cave

And the Ass Saw the Angel was Nick Cave's first novel, released in 1989. Twenty years later, he comes back with his new novel The Deat of Bunny Munro.

As I am going to a reading of this book and an event next Friday, I thought I should read it beforehand.

'Bunny Munro sells beauty products and the dream of hope to lonely housewives along the south coast of England. Set adrift by his wife's sudden death and struggling to keep a grip on reality, he does the only thing he can think of - with his young son in town, he hits the road.

While Bunny plies his trade and his sexual charisma door-to-door, nine-year-old Bunny Junior sits patiently in the car, exploring the world through the pages of his encyclopaedia.

As their bizarre and increasingly frenzied road trip shears into a final reckoning, Bunny finds that the ghosts of his world - decrepit fathers, vengeful lovers, jealous husbands and horned psychokillers - have emerged from the shadows and are seeking to exact their toll.

A tender portrait of the relationship between father ans son, The Death of Bunny Munro is a sylish, angry and hugely enjoyable read, bursting with the wit and mystery that fans will recognise as hallmarks of Cave's singular vision.'

JANUARY GROOVE INC RELEASES

Starting today with one of my passions: DOLLS

I have been collecting dolls since 2003 more or less and I just never seem to have enough. My favorite dolls are Pullip, produced by Jun Planning until this year when they have been bought by Groove Inc.

Here are the new releases for January 2010:

PULLIP ELIZABETH:

Pullips were first released in 2003 by Jun Planning and slowly became very popular. Nowadays, there are Pullip collectors all over the globe and these dolls are present in every doll event. They release a new model every month and special editions are released from time to time.

TAEYANG NOSFERATU:

Taeyangs are the successors of Namus, the Pullip's male counterpart. As Namus where not very popular, Jun Planning stopped producing them in 2005. In 2006 Jun Planning released the first Taeyang and since then they have become pretty popular and are selling a lot better than the Namus.

DAL ENDE:

DALs where released for the first time in 2006 as Taeyang's 13 years old little sister.

Needless to say, I have preordered the three of them <3

WELCOME TO WONDERLAND

Welcome to my Wonderland,

the name Kasha has different meanings inside the Japanese mythology. On the one side it is believed to be a type of folklore vampire that fed on dead bodies from the cemeteries. And on the other side it is believed to be a type of demon with feline form. It would come from the sky and steal the bodies of the dead. It was often feared that a pet cat belonging to someone who had recently died would turn into such a creature. So anyway is fitting me :)

No explanation needed for the Wonderland part I presume ;)

You are all invited to join my personal Wonderland, a world were we keep the spirit of a child and refuse to become adults.

Here you will find reviews about movies, all about vampires and other fascinating creatures, all about the plastic world I live in between dolls and Japan.

Hope you enjoy the ride to Wonderland with me.
